Impacts
Socio-economic impacts of the BOMOSA scheme:
- Production of fish as a high protein dietary supplement and/or source of additional income specifically for rural communities.
- The BOMOSA cage-based fish-farming scheme will be tailored to fit the budgetary constraints of rural communities and have an explicit poverty alleviation and gender focus.
- Social economic impacts of establishing fish production in rural communities, for example on 'livelihood effects' from introduction of a new economic activity.
- Social acceptance, cultural and ethical issues associated with production and consumption of fish products such as esteem attached with participation and improving female roles in economic activities.
- Effects and perceptions on the utilization of multi-use water bodies where BOMOSA plots are established.
- Various models of water body ownership and BOMOSA plot operational responsibilities
- Positive and (potentially) negative side effects of the BOMOSA plots on a rural community such as recreational or eco-tourism benefits.
